Abstract

Objectives: Endometriosis is a condition that is often found in infertile women and it is characterized by ectopic endometrial implants. It is a very bothersome disease that can impair a women life (fertility, pain etc.)In our hospital we have an ongoing study regarding endometriosis. The goal of the study is to compare the beneficial effects of GnRH agonists (Triptoreline) versus Progestatives in the case laparoscopic diagnosed endometriosis which could not be entirely solved by surgical treatment.Materials: There are 2 groups of patients: the first group was treated with Triptoreline and the other group with progestative. After six months of medical treatment there will be performed a "second look" laparoscopy. There were compared patients with similar degree of endometriosis. We want to find out if there is a beneficial effect of the medical treatment and which one of the above is the best medical treatment. Methods: The first laparoscopy -medical treatment -second laparoscopy.Montly monitoring. Results: Until now we have 12 patients that have finalized the program. We found that the progestative treatment was poorly tolerated (heavy bleeding controlled only by haemostatic curettage, loss of conscience and weight gain) but when it has been well tolerated, the endometriosis found in second look laparoscopy was comparably lesser than in the triptoreline group (the sides effect of the treatment were not so bothersome and none of the patients complained about the treatment). Conclusions: If the progestative treatment is well tolerated it should be the first choice of medical treatment.
