Abstract

The current study provides a comprehensive review and unified framework on emotional and cognitive factors underpinning driving behaviours and errors. T This article provides a conceptual framework that explains the relationship between cognitive, emotional, and personality factors and driving behaviours, including crashes, lane deviation, speeding, among others. In addition, this article also discusses how ageing and dementia impact driving behaviours. Importantly, this review shows that driving errors and behaviours are related to emotional and cognitive factors, and impaired emotional and cognitive function impacts driving in older adults and persons with dementia. Furthermore, this article highlights that by ameliorating emotional and cognitive processes in the risk populations, may able to help them drive safely. Importantly, this review provides a comprehensive list of studies for future research.
