Perioperative management of coexsting diseases for elderly patients with gynecological diseases

Abstract

Objective:To explore the perioperative management of the coexisting diseases for the elderly patients with gynecological diseases.Methods:From January 1998 to January 2010, the experience of surgical treatment for gynecological diseases with coexisting diseases in 78 patients over 60 years old was analyzed retrospectively.Results:The coexisting diseases included diabetes (30 cases),hypertension (24 cases),heart disease (12 cases) and respiratory diseases (12 cases).Postoperative complications: vulvovginal candidiasis (3 cases),wound dehiscence(1 case),wound infection(6 cases),pneumonia(3 cases) and cardiac insufficiency (1 case).Conclusion:The coexisting diseases increase the risk of surgical procedures. But complete assessment of the patient’s general health and intensive perioperative management of the coexsting diseases can increase the success rate of operation and decrease the operative mortality and incidence of complication.
