Abstract

Abstract This research was done to better understand the two renowned Universities in the state of Karnataka, MAHE in Manipal and VTU in Belagavi. Their research outputs for the last five years are analyzed using the Scopus bibliographical tool. The goal of this study was to determine how the COVID-19 pandemic affected research productivity. Surprisingly, the MAHE (2351) research community published more than three times as many papers as the VTU (744) research community during the pandemic period (2020–21). The MAHE research community prefers to publish in journals > 90%, however just 61% of VTU researchers do the same. This is another significant conclusion from the study. Importantly, just 5% of researchers at MAHE publish in conferences compared to around 19% of researchers at VTU. This demonstrates that MAHE gives journal publication a greater preference; as a result, the impact of this policy is evident in the data analysis.
