Abstract

The relationship between breast volume/mass and breast size helps surgeons choose implants with proper size. However, current breast volume/mass table is incomplete or inaccurate. This study aims to compare breast volumes obtained by two methods and achieve a complete relationship between breast volume/mass and breast size. Data of breast volume measured by water displacement method, breast mass predicted by breast tissue cut off in breast reduction surgery, and breast density was acquired by literature research. Breast volume was calculated by breast mass multiply breast density. The quantitative relationship between measured breast volume and calculated breast volume was analysed. It was found that exponential relationship exists between the two kinds of breast volumes. Breast volume table was supplemented according to this relationship and accurate breast mass table was calculated. In the future, more breast volume/mass studies with expanded breast size ranges should be explored to enrich the application group.
