Abstract

We have developed an innovative data visualization tool aimed at assisting policymakers and stakeholders in understanding the disproportionate impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on vulnerable populations, particularly seniors aged 65 and older and minority groups across the United States. This tool combines data from reputable sources such as the CDC, PRB, and third-party Covid-19 and public health datasets. Known as the Health Equity & Justice Dashboard, it provides insights into various health-related metrics, including death rates, vaccination rates, obesity, and vaccine hesitancy, as well as demographic factors like race, ethnicity, and age. Our analysis has revealed significant disparities at the state and county levels, particularly in terms of health outcomes and racial disparities. Notably, Covid-19 deaths vary significantly by race, ethnicity, and age. Similar findings have been reported in previous studies, highlighting the disproportionate burden of COVID-19 deaths among racial/ethnic minority groups and older individuals, particularly those aged 65 and above.Furthermore, our research has identified variations in age and other health-related indicators such as Covid-19 vaccination rates and bed availability by state, all of which have significant implications for health and coping strategies during the Covid-19 pandemic. This tool provides valuable insights to support evidence-based decision-making in response to the pandemic.
