Abstract

Objective:To study the causes of misdiagnosis by MRI in ovarian multilocular lesions. Methods:The MRI and clinical materials of fourteen cases of ovarian multilocular lesions confirmed by pathology, were retrospectively analyzed. Results:In the 14 cases of multilocular lesions, ovarian endometriosis cysts(n=7)showed high signals on T1 WI and T2 WI,and multiple small follicles around a big cyst and liquid-liquid levels in 3cases.Among the 7,one was misdiagnosed as mucinous cystadenoma before operation.Ovarian abscess(n=2)showed inflammatory manifestations around the lesions and thickened wall, both of the 2cases were misdiagnosed as ovarian tumor before operation.Struma ovarii 1case(n=1)showed multilocular cystic lesion and enhancement of solid part,it was misdiagnosed as cystic carcinoma before operation.Cystadenoma/carcinoma 4cases(n=4),there was no misdiagnosis. Conclusions:MRI can show the ovarian multilocular lesions clearly. Some rare diseases have characteristic manifestation on MRI.Because of the relative insufficient knowledge to these diseases, misdiagnosis is common. In daily work, many cases of misdiagnosis can be avoided by the update of professional knowledge, close combining with clinical symptoms and careful analysis of MRI signals.
