Abstract
Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and security of a levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system(LNG-IUS)for adenomyosis. Methods LNG-IUS was inserted into 40 patients diagnosed as adenomyosis. The dysmenorrheal degree, menstrual flow, uterine volume and side effects before and after LNG-IUS were observed. All the patients were followed up for 12 months. Results After followed up for 12 months, dysmenorrheal was relieved, menstrual flow reduced, and uterine volume shrank in some extent. The main side effects were spotting and discharge. Conclusion Inserting LNG-IUS into uterus is a safe, effective and acceptable conservative treatment for adenomyosis.
