The research investigates how hope, interpersonal trust, collectivism/individualism, emotion-based decision making, and distress tolerance predict voter turnout and political preferences. Furthermore, it aims to determine whether certain psychological profiles are associated with supporters of different political parties. Data were collected using an online questionnaire distributed on Facebook and Instagram between November 12 and November 30, 2024. The sample consisted of 418 participants. The results of a multinomial logistic regression indicate that interpersonal trust and vertical collectivism are significant predictors of political party preference. Higher interpersonal trust was associated with greater odds of supporting both Establishment Parties and Anti-Establishment Pro-European Parties when compared to Anti-Establishment Sovereigntist Parties. In contrast, higher hope scores and higher vertical collectivism scores were associated with lower odds of intending to vote for Anti-Establishment Pro-European Parties. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the psychological factors influencing voting behavior and may provide valuable insights for designing political campaigns and fostering more effective democratic engagement.
