Conservative treatment for lower urinary tract symptoms in people with endometriosis: a scoping review.

other OA: green CC0

Abstract

Descrição do Projeto Project Description This scoping review aims to map the available evidence on conservative, non-pharmacological and non-surgical treatment used to lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in people with endometriosis. Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition frequently associated with urinary and bowel symptoms that negatively impact quality of life and remain underrecognized in clinical practice. Due to the heterogeneity of approaches described and the variability in terminology used in the literature, a scoping review is considered the most appropriate method to comprehensively map existing evidence and identify knowledge gaps related to conservative treatment. The review will be conducted in accordance with the JBI methodology and reported following the PRISMA-ScR checklist. The review question is structured according to the PCC framework, considering people with endometriosis (Population), conservative non-pharmacological and non-surgical treatment (Concept), and any healthcare context (Context). A comprehensive search strategy will be developed based on a preliminary search and refined with the support of an expert librarian, using controlled vocabulary and free-text terms related to endometriosis and lower urinary tract symptoms. To increase search sensitivity, terms related to the treatment concept will not be included. Eligible sources will include quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods studies, as well as grey literature, with no restrictions on language, publication year, or study setting. Study selection and data extraction will be performed independently by two reviewers using a standardized and pilot-tested form. Data will be analyzed descriptively and presented in tables and narrative summaries, without critical appraisal or statistical analysis, in line with scoping review methodology.
