Abstract

AIM To investigate the effect of crucumin on rats with endometriosis.METHODS The endometriosis model was induced in clean female SD rats by surgery of self-endometrium transplant.After three weeks,the model rats were divided into four groups that were model group(n=10),gestrinone group(n=9),low dose group of crucumin(n=9),middle dose group of crucumin(n=8),high dose group of crucumin(n=9),and sham operation as control group(n=10).After three weeks of treatment,the expression of serum estradiol was measured by ELISA,and the expressions of estrogen receptor-α(ERα),proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) were measured by immunostaining.RESULTS As compared with the control group,the level of estradiol in serum and levels of ERα,PCNA and VEGF in ectopic tissues in model group increased(P0.01),but those in gestrinone and crucumin groups decreased(P0.05).CONCLUSION Curcumin can reduce level of serum estradiol expression and the ERα,PCNA,VEGF expression through inhibiting the angiogenic potential of endometriosis in rats.
