Abstract
The heterotopic development of a tissue which more or less resembles the uterine mucous membrane is called endometrosis. Sometimes this tissue takes part in the menstrual cycle. During pregnancy the heterotopic endometrium may undergo even decidual transformation. During the menopause the endometrial lesions retrocede significantly, which proves beyond doubt that they are under hormonal influence. Skin endometriosis (or the menstruating of the old authors) is of a very rare occurrence and is comparatively unknown. However, it is sometimes of great importance, especially in the differential diagnosis of malignancy of the umbilicus. That is why we felt that it would be of interest to publish a case with this condition. Report of a Case Case History.— A housewife, 41 years old, had been ill for one year.
