Abstract
The XXIV FIGO World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics was held in Paris in October 2023—FIGO's first in-person World Congress since 2018. In this issue, we are delighted to publish 12 papers that were invited following selection as outstanding abstracts from that Congress by FIGO's Scientific Programme Committee. All submitted full papers were independently peer reviewed by IJGO's Editorial Board, and the final selection covers a fascinating range of topics and geographical regions, including four papers from Europe,1-4 two from Latin America,5, 6 three from Asia-Oceania,7-9 two from Africa–East Mediterranean,10, 11 and one from North America.12 All papers in this special section will be free to read for a limited period following publication of the issue, and we hope that this will encourage a similarly wide breadth of readership. The 25th FIGO World Congress will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in South Africa in October 2025, and once again, we urge researchers to submit their abstracts for consideration. All accepted abstracts will be published in an IJGO supplement—we published over 1300 abstracts for the 2023 World Congress, and will be opening the call for abstracts for the 2025 World Congress later in 2024. The Scientific Programme Committee will again select outstanding abstracts, and will invite these authors to submit a full paper to IJGO. We hope to offer this opportunity to a wider range of authors in 2025, with the intention of making the best research available to the widest possible global audience—IJGO currently achieves around 2.4 million annual downloads from a wide geographical readership. Readers can pre-register online to be the first to hear about when abstract submissions open at www.figo2025.org. We look forward to receiving your submissions! The authors have no conflicts of interest. Data sharing not applicable to this article as no datasets were generated or analysed during the current study.
