Renal lymphangiectasia: One disease, many names!

This case report describes a 40-year-old female presenting with flank pain and lower abdominal discomfort who had a prior surgical history for uterine fibroids and endometriosis. Imaging studies, including ultrasound, CT, and MRI, identified bilateral multicystic fluid collections in the peripelvic spaces that splayed the pelvicalyceal systems without causing hydronephrosis. These findings were diagnosed as renal lymphangiectasia, a rare benign disorder of the renal lymphatic system, while the patient's current symptoms were attributed to her underlying endometriosis. Relevance to endometriosis: The paper is tangentially related to endometriosis, which served as the clinical context for the patient’s presentation and was cited as the cause of her symptoms, whereas the primary subject of the study is the incidental finding of renal lymphangiectasia.
