Abstract

As an important immunological and effector cell, macrophage participates in specific and non-specific immunities. Many studies indicated that the number of macrophages in peritoneal fluid, eutopic and ectopic endometria of women with endometriosis increases significantly and their function is impaired.Their ability to eliminate ectopic endometria decreases.Abnormally activated macrophage-derived cytokines such as interleukin(IL),tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α),vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)all take part in occurrence and development of endometriosis(EMs).This article reviewed immunoregulation of macrophage in occurrence and development of EMs.
