Abstract
Objective To investigate the quality of life (QOL) in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and whether patients’ coping style and social support would impact their QOL.Methods A survey was carried out in 71 patients with IBD and IBD questionnaire, SF-36, Simplified Coping Style Scale and Social Support Questionnaire were used in this study. Demographic data and disease-related indicators were collected. Those data of the IBD patients were compared with that of 103 normal persons. Correlation analysis was applied to identify the relationship between coping style, social support and the QOL of IBD patients. Results The score of SF-36 in IBD patients was significantly lower than that in control group(P0.01). The score of positive coping style in IBD patients was also lower than that in control group(P0.01). Positive coping style and sufficient social support were positively correlated to the QOL of IBD patients (P0.05,P0.01), and negative copying style negatively to the QOL of the patients (P0.05,P0.01). Conclusion QOL of IBD patients was low. The IBD patients who had proper coping style and sufficient social support had higher QOL.
