Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical evaluation of Levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system for treatment of Adenomyosis and contraception. Methods All the patients,eighty-three of them with Adenomyosis,62 cases with moderate or severe dysmenorrhea associated with adenomyosis,21 cases with menstrual blood loss or need contraception, were inserted LNG-INS into their uterine cavity on the 4~7 th day of menstral cycle. The dysmenorrhoea scores, mensural blood loss, hemoglobin, uterine volume and contraception were recorded before and after 3,6 and 12 months insertion respectively. Results After insertion of Mirena, the dysmenorrhea scores, before and in 3 months, were 90±11 versus 12±7;and the menserual blood loss, before and 3,6,12 months, following the insertion, were (29±10)%,(17±4)%,(9±4)%;the dysmenorrhea scores and menserual blood loss reduced significantly from those before treatment (P0.01,P0.05).The uterine volume decreased also (P0.05).42 patients′ hemoglobin level had increased to normal. And the effective rate was 100% in contraception. Conclusion LNG-INS is an effective and safe method for controlling the symptoms of adenomyosis.Mirena inserting inside uterine cavity can significantly alleviate the clinical symptoms of adenomyosis. Moreover,it can improve the patients living quality, and is quite promising method in the contraception.
