Eye movement modulation of memory reconsolidation in trauma-like memory
preprint

Abstract
The aim of this research is exploring whether eye movement can facilitate memory reconsolidation, and therefore reducing trauma-like memory. It also wants to investigate whether different types (online/in person) of study and culture (UK/China) will have influence on memory reconsolidation. 79 Participants (Age: 18-24) were recruit from University of Birmingham. On the first day, all the participants watched a traumatic film on the first day. On the second day , they received eye movement or memory reconsolidation training after rewatching the traumatic film again. Then, they filled in Impact Event Scale-Revised (IES-R) for a week. In the end, they filled in IES-R one last time and performed a declarative memory task. The results of study one show a significant difference among groups who received eye movement + memory reconsolidation than other groups. The conclusion is eye movement can facilitate memory reconsolidation but not sure about destabilisation.
