Abstract

Objective To study ultrasonographic characteristics of uterine endometrial stromal sarcoma(ESS),discuss the reasons of it diagnosised as other diseases by ultrasound, and then reduce the misdiagnosis rate. Methods Ultrasonographic findings in 6 cases with uterine ESS confirmed by surgical pathology were retrospectively analyzed. Results In the 6 cases:2 cases demonstrated a mass protruding into the endometrial cavity were diagnosised as endometrial lesions;2 cases presented as the masses located in the uterine wall with hyperechoic were diagnosised as uteine myoma;1 case presented as diffuse myometrial thickening was diagnosised as adenomyosis:1 case presented as a huge pelvic mass with mixed echoic was diagnosised as ovarian tumor combined with uterine myoma. Conclusion Endometrial stromal sarcoma presents with four patterns of its sonographic appearance;a polypoid mass,an intramural mass, diffuse myometrial thickening, and a huge pelvic mass. The four patterns of ultrasonographic findings in the irregular bleeding women, especially in premenopausal women, may suggest the diagnosis of uterine endometrial stromal sarcoma.
