Abstract

myoma operated by means of hysterectomy or myomectomy in the department of Ob. & Gyn, Korea General Hospital, Seoul for the past 10 years from the beginning of 1971 to the end of 1980. The results obtained were as follows. 1. Myoma was found in 20.2% out of 1127 cases of gynecological operation and the most common age group was 41-50 years old. 2. The location of myoma was most common in the corpus uteri(91.3%) and least common in the cervix(5.7%) and the most common type of myoma was intramural in 47.3%, subserous in 22.8%, mixed form in 15.4% and submucous in 14.5%. 3. Infertility was observed in 30.3% of myoma cases(Primary infertility; 8.0%, secondary infertility; 22.0%) and highest infertility rate was observed in subserous type. 4. The average hemoglobin value was 10.6gm/dl. 5. The chief complaints were abnormal genital bleeding (58%), low abdominal pain(54.4%), general symptom(40.3%) and pressure symptom(28.0%) in order of frequency. 6. Associated condition found in myoma were chronic cervicitis(38.2%), adenomyosis(14.9%) and ovarian tumor(13.6%). 7. The most frequent secondary changes in myoma were hyaline degeneration (10.6%) and 3 cases of sarcomatous change were observed. 8. Total abdominal hysterectomy was performed in 84.2% of all cases and myomectomy in 13.2%. There was no death due to operation.
