Abstract

Objective:To investigate the prognostic value of nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κ B) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in endometriosis patients. Methods: The NFκB and VEGF were detected by immunohistochemistry in histological sections of 83 endometriosis patients and the follow-up data were analyzed. Results: The positive rates of NF-κB and VEGF expressions were 73.49% and 69.88% respectively in ectopic endometrium, and 59.04% and 55.42% respectively in eutopic endometrium. The concordances between NF-κB and VEGF expressions in both ectopic endometrium(Kappa=0.69) and eutopic endometrium(Kappa=0.78) were significant statistically. The positive correlation between the eutopic and ectopic endometrium was found in NF-κB expression(r=0.67) and VEGF expression(r=0.78).The recurrence rate in patients with high-level NF-κ B and VEGF expressions was significantly higher than that in patients with low-level NF-κ B and VEGF expression(P0.05).Conclusion: Detection of NF-κ B and VEGF expression may be useful for predicting prognosis in endometriosis patients.
