Abstract

AIM: To study the expression of fragile histidine triad(Fhit) in endometriosis(EM) and adenomyosis(AM). METHODS: Immunohistochemical SP staining was used to examine the expression of Fhit in the ectopic endometrium of 36 cases of endometriosis(EM group) and eutopic endometrium of 22 cases of adenomyosis(AM group), as well as endometrium of 15 cases of hysteromyoma(control group). RESULTS: Mean optical density(MOD) of EM group showed no difference from that of AM group(P0.05). Expression of Fhit of EM/AM endometrium was lower than that of normal endometrium significantly(P0.05). Fhit of eutopic and ectopic endometrium in proliferative phase showed no difference from that in secretory phase(P0.05). Fhit of ectopic endometrium showed significant difference between different r-AFS stages(P0.05). Negative correlation was found between Fhit expression and r-AFS stage(r=-0.40,P0.05). CONCLUSION: Fhit may play an important role in the development of endometriosis and adenomyosis.
