Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effects of emodin on ectopic endometrial cells of endometriosis. Methods Endometrial epithelial cells(EECs) and endometrial stromal cells(ESCs) in the endometriomas of patients with endometriosis were separated and cultured. The cultured cells were treated with different doses(20 μmol /L,40 μmol /L,80μmol/L and 160 μmol/L) of emodin. The apoptosis of cells was detected by flow cytometry with annexinV FITC/PI double staining. The adhesion of cells was detected by crystal violet staining. The invasive ability of cells was detected with transwell chambers. Results Apoptosis of EECs and ESCs was induced by emodin, which also significantly suppressed the adhesive and invasive capacities of EECs and ESCs( P 0. 05). Conclusion Emodin may become a novel option for treatment of endometriosis.
