Surgical Management of Endometriosis: Current Trends and Future Directions

article OA: green CC0

Abstract

Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological condition characterized by the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus, typically within the pelvic cavity. Surgical management plays a crucial role in the treatment of endometriosis, aiming to alleviate pain, improve fertility, and restore quality of life for affected individuals. Over the years, various surgical techniques have been employed, including conservative approaches such as laparoscopy and more extensive procedures like laparotomy and robot-assisted surgery. This review provides an overview of the current trends in surgical management of endometriosis, discussing the benefits and limitations of different techniques. Furthermore, it highlights emerging technologies and future directions in the field, such as the use of enhanced visualization systems, tissue-sparing approaches, and the potential role of artificial intelligence in surgical decision-making. The ultimate goal is to improve patient outcomes, minimize disease recurrence, and refine surgical interventions to better address the complexities of endometriosis.
