Abstract

Cutaneous endometriosis is defined as the presence of extrauterine endometrial tissue in or under the skin. It occurs most commonly as a secondary process in scars after abdominal or pelvic procedures. Rarely, endometriosis may arise spontaneously within the umbilicus. We present a case of cutaneous endometriosis presented as a painful umbilical nodule. The patient had no history of previous abdominal or pelvic surgery. Histopathological examination revealed a characteristic feature of cutaneous endometriosis. (Korean J Dermatol 2002;40(1):100~102)
