Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of cytokines in serum on the pathogenesis of endometriosis. Methods With the help of RIA, the levels of IL-2, IL-6 and TNF-α in the serum of both 80 patients with EMS and 50 controls were determined. Results The levels of IL-2, IL-6 and TNF-α in the serum of patients with EMS were significantly higher than that of controls (P0.01), and increased with the increase in clinical terms. After operation, the levels reduced gradually to normal. Conclusions Determination of the levels of IL-2, IL-6 and TNF-α in serum of patients with EMS is instrumental to evaluate the immune status, which possesses significance for the observation of the progress of the disease and for the preventive measures.
