Abstract

Purpose To discuss the ultrasonographic appearance of ovary thecoma and its clinical value. Methods Ultrasonographic features of 13 cases with thecoma confirmed by pathology from July 1999 to May 2004 were retrospectively reviewed. Results All cases of thecoma were examined with ultrasound preoperatively. Among them, 7 cases presented hypoechogenic solid mass and 6 cases showed cystic-solid mass without specific features. With respect to complications, there were 2 cases of uterine leomyoma, 1 case of leomyoma with adenomyosis and endometrial polyps, 1 case of adenomyosis and chocolate cyst, and 1 case of serous cystadenoma and mesosalpinx cyst. Conclusion No specific feature is found on ultrasonography. The combination of ultrasonographic appearance and clinical symptoms are helpful in diagnosing thecoma.
