Clinicopathological Analysis Of Hysterectomy Specimens - A Retrospective Study At A Tertiary Care Centre In North India
This retrospective study analyzed 155 hysterectomy specimens from a tertiary care center in North India, examining clinical indications and correlating preoperative diagnoses with final histopathology across endometrium, myometrium, cervix, ovaries, and fallopian tubes using H&E staining. The most common surgical approach was abdominal hysterectomy (83.9%), and the leading clinical indication was abnormal uterine bleeding due to leiomyoma (45.8%), while adenomyosis accounted for 22.6% of cases; proliferative endometrium was the most frequent endometrial pattern (38.7%), and leiomyoma and adenomyosis were the most frequent myometrial findings. A strong clinicopathological correlation was reported in 70–100% of cases, and malignancies of the endometrium, cervix, and ovary were identified, with additional incidental findings such as chronic cervicitis. The paper explicitly focuses on clinicopathological spectra from hysterectomy specimens and does not state other limitations such as representativeness beyond this single center and one-year timeframe; this paper is centrally relevant to endometriosis and adenomyosis because adenomyosis (AUB-A) is a major clinical indication and histopathological finding, and endometriosis is mentioned among common benign uterine pathologies.
