Abstract

Objective To report a case of the primary squamous cell carcinoma of the ovary and to investigate the clinical and pathologic characteristics of the tumor. Methods A case of primary ovarian squamous cell carcinoma was studied by light microscopy and immunohistochemistry with the analysis of morphologic features and review of the relevant literatures. Results The squamous cell carcinoma in the ovary had the same histological features as it was in the other sites, such as esophagus and skin. The ovary was totally occupied by the tumor cells and there was no teratoma or endometriosis in the ovary. Conclusion Most of the primary ovarian squamous cell carcinoma is derived from the teratomas, endometriosis and Brenner's tumor. The pure primary ovarian squamous cell carcinoma is extremely rare. The histological features is same as that in the other sites.
