Biomass, Productivity, Carbon Sequestration and Economics of four short rotation tree Species in Eastern part of Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

To study the biomass, productivity, carbon sequestration and economic of short rotation tree species viz., Eucalyptus spp ., Casuarina equisetifolia , Gmelina arborea and Melia dubia in high-density plantation in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India, with different spacings, viz., 1 × 1 m, 1.2 × 1.2 m and 1.5 × 1.5 m. The experiment was established in July 2019 and data was collected every year. The maximum volume was found in T 1 Eucalyptus (1×1 m) 2917.34 m 3 ha -1 followed by T 4 Melia (1×1 m) 2109.74 m 3 ha -1 and minimum in T 10 Casuarina (1.5×1.5 m) 373.54 m 3 ha -1 . The Biomass, Carbon Stock and Carbon Sequestration maximum found in T 1 Eucalyptus (1×1 m) 3374.43, 1687.22 and 6192 t ha -1 followed by T 4 Melia (1×1 m) 1594.96, 797.48 and 2926.75 t ha -1 and minimum in T 12 Melia (1.5×1.5 m) 406.58, 203.29 and 746.07 t ha -1 respectively. The maximum volume productivity index was found in T 1 Eucalyptus (1×1 m) 833.53 m 3 ha -1 year -1 followed by T 4 Melia (1×1 m) 602.78 m 3 ha -1 year -1 and minimum in T 10 Casuarina (1.5×1.5 m) 106.74 m 3 ha -1 year -1 whereas the maximum biomass productivity index was found in T 1 Eucalyptus (1×1 m) 964.12 t ha -1 year -1 followed by T 4 Melia (1×1 m) 455.70 m 3 ha -1 year -1 and minimum in T 12 Melia (1.5×1.5 m) 116.18 m 3 ha -1 year -1 . The maximum B:C ratio was found in T 1 Eucalyptus (1×1 m) 8.35 followed by T 9 Eucalyptus (1.5×1.5 m) 5.03 and minimum in T 3 Casuarina (1×1 m) 2.06.
