Correlationship between TCM Syndromes and r-AFS Stages in Endometriosis Patients

Abstract

Objective To explore the TCM syndromes of endometriosis (EM) patients and their correlation with the r-AFS stages. Methods Totally 113 EM cases proved by laparoscopic pathology were preoperatively diagnosed with TCM symptom observation and syndrome differentiation and scored for the dysmenorrhea severity, and intraoperatively differentiated with r-AFS staging. Results Most of the 113 EM cases were manifested as the syndromes of qi stagnation with blood stasis (33.6%) and kidney deficiency with blood stasis (30.1%). The most common symptoms were stabbing pain in lower abdomen (63.7%), soreness in lumbosacral region (56.6%), and distending pain in breasts (48.7%). The syndrome of cold coagulation with blood stasis was mainly distributed in the Stage Ⅰ, the syndromes of kidney deficiency with blood stasis and qi deficiency with blood stasis were mainly distributed in the Stage Ⅲ, however, the syndromes of qi stagnation with blood stasis and heat stagnation with blood stasis were mainly distributed in the Stage Ⅳ. The difference in the r-AFS stages of different syndromes was statistically significant (P0.01), and the difference in the r-AFS stages of different dysmenorrhea severities was statistically significant (P0.05). Conclusion The r-AFS stages of different syndromes of EM patients are significantly different, whilst the increase of dysmenorrhea severity is correlated with the r-AFS stages.
