This paper is an integrative literature review assessing evidence for an association between endometriosis and periodontal disease. The authors searched PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus (search updated in 2026) and, after screening 139 records down to 5 eligible full-text studies, synthesized findings across observational and analytical designs, including microbiome and inflammatory mediator outcomes. The review reports higher prevalence and severity of periodontal disease in women with endometriosis, with greater gingival bleeding and periodontitis, and notes oral microbiome changes and increased shared inflammatory mediators that support a possible systemic immune dysfunction pathway; it also states that longitudinal studies with larger samples are needed to clarify mechanisms and confirm causality. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it specifically reviews the scientific evidence linking endometriosis with periodontal disease.

Abstract

Foram identificados 139 estudos (PubMed = 27; Web of Science = 25; Scopus = 87).
