A Survey-Based Study on Physiological Health Condition & Socioeconomic Crises of the Rmg Sector Workers of Bangladesh During Covid-19 Pandemic

COVID-19 or also known as SARS-CoV-2 respiratory virus is currently showing its devastating affect not only on the public health but also on the world economy as well. Many developed countries like USA, Russia, Italy and France have struggled to face this pandemic. Developing and underdeveloped countries are also going through economical and financial crises as well as the sever break down in public health sector. Over the past several months, the world has witnessed how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the textile sectors of Bangladesh in various unprecedented ways. The objective of this study is to assess the potential impact of the coronavirus disease on the textile workers of Bangladesh. This study articulates the garments workers existing vulnerability during the COVID-19 pandemic. A pre-determined questionnaire has been used to evaluate the current deplorable condition of the garment workers. The information was collected from workers in various industries. The paper outlines the existing supports the workers have found during the pandemic situation from the textile industries they worked in. COVID-19 has already affected both the physical and mental health of garment workers and has resulted in reduced employment. Textile factory stakeholders should pay close attention to the health and overall well-being of workers during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
