Abstract

Abstract This research paper focuses on analyzing the change in greenness in the city of Dehradun over the last 5 years using machine learning techniques. The study utilizes the high-resolution imagery and information provided by the Sentinel-2 satellite, which is part of the European Space Agency's Copernicus program. The Sentinel-2 satellite is equipped with a multispectral imaging instrument that captures images in 13 different spectral bands, including visible and near-infrared bands that are useful for monitoring vegetation. The paper utilizes the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) to assess the health and productivity of vegetation in Dehradun over the last 5 years. Machine learning algorithms are applied to the NDVI data to analyze the greenness change in the city. The study provides insights on the temporal changes in the greenness of Dehradun and its impact on urban planning, regional development, and natural resource management.
