Abstract
Extramedullary hematopoiesis is a disease of the blood system that can occur anywhere in the body. The liver and spleen are the most common sites. However, mediastinum, mammary gland and central nervous system are rarely reported. We report a case of posterior mediastinal mass found on physical examination. We performed video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery to differentiate neurogenic masses from mediastinal ones and postoperative pathological results were consistent with extramedullary hematopoiesis.Such extramedullary hematopoiesis without chronic anemia is rare and its clinical features have not been reported.
