Abstract

Castillo Vardaro et al. (2021) explored mechanisms that modulate spatial regularity in social insects without validating the modelled trends using rigorous measures of regularity from empirical data. Here we show that empirical insect data contradict their model generalizations and that their high resource densities cannot explain spatially periodic dryland vegetation.
