A new species of the genusCarlogonus(Spirostreptida: Harpagophoridae) from West Bengal, India

Abstract

A new species of Carlogonus, Carlogonus bengalensis is described from West Bengal, India. The adult is blackish brown in colour with a yellowish curved tail, round body with 60 segments, 55 mm in length, 5 th segment of male bears a hump, telopodite of the gonopod long, flat and band like with a single curved antetorsal process, mesal process with a red spine, proplical lobe with a curved orange spine, inner surface of metaplical fold with sigilla, palette spatula like and a few blepharochatae at the apical margin. Male bears white pad on femur and tibia. Comparison was made with the “ exaratus group” of the genus Carlogonus .
