Moxibustion at Guanyuan (CV4) Inhibits Endometriosis Progression via Regulation of the Wnt/β-catenin Signalling Pathway in a Murine Model
This study investigated the therapeutic effects of moxibustion at the Guanyuan (CV4) acupoint on a murine model of endometriosis induced by auto-transplantation. Researchers treated mice for 14 days and assessed outcomes through cyst volume measurement and western blot analysis of proteins involved in the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, including uPA, MMP-9, E-cadherin, Axin, GSK3β, and β-catenin. The results demonstrated that moxibustion significantly reduced ectopic cyst volume and dysmenorrhea-like symptoms while downregulating Wnt/β-catenin pathway activity and matrix metalloproteinases, thereby inhibiting adhesion and reconstruction of ectopic endometrial cells. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — specifically the use of acupuncture-based interventions to modulate molecular pathways associated with lesion growth and progression.
