Case Report: Anesthesia management of a patient that requires lung isolation with tracheal stenosis and an anterior airway

Background: Under general anesthesia, double lumen endotracheal tubes are frequently used in the surgical management of cases requiring lung isolation. However, a single lumen endotracheal tube with a bronchial blocker might be necessary in instances of tracheal stenosis or difficult airways. Case Presentation: We describe a case of a 67-year-old female with a large lung cyst who showed signs of both tracheal stenosis and an anterior airway who underwent cyst removal. Under GlideScope videolaryngoscopy, a transition from a double lumen endotracheal tube to a single lumen endotracheal tube in conjunction with a bronchial blocker was required, which allowed for successful cyst removal from the patient with effective selective lung ventilation with uneventful recovery. Conclusion: It is an original case report, which demonstrates the transition from a double lumen tube to a single lumen tube in conjunction with a bronchial blocker in the incident of both tracheal stenosis and an anterior airway under the guidance of the GlideScope.
