Experimental Study on Icon Attention Difference Based on Multidimensional Visual Variables

Abstract

Cognition plays an important role in psychology. The study of cognition is divided into an important research direction: cognitive psychology. The process by which users process information conveyed by icons is icon attention, and cognitive psychology can only be used as a theoretical basis to study internal mechanism of icon attention difference. By studying internal mechanism of user recognition of icons, the icon design is optimized to make its visual form more consistent with the cognitive law of user recognition of icons, so as to improve efficiency of icon attention, achieve the purpose of improving smoothness of human-computer interaction in digital interface, and provide reliable theoretical basis and feasible icon optimization design criteria for improving user experience in digital interface. Because icons are affected by many attributes including color, background, outline, shape, detail, direction, size, etc., these attributes as visual characteristics of icons will inevitably affect user's cognitive process of icons. Therefore, to carry out scientific and rigorous research on icon concern, it’s necessary to carry out experimental research on difference of concern of multi-dimensional visual variables of icons, so as to determine the more representative attributes of multi-dimensional visual variables, and provide experimental support for future icon design suggestions.
