The Value of MRI in Differential Diagnosis between Uterine Leiomyomas and Adenomyosis

Objective To analyze the MRI features of uterine leiomyomas and adenomyosis,and to evaluate the value of MRI in differential diagnosis between two diseases.Methods The MR imaging data of 66 cases with uterine leiomyomas or adenomyosis proved by surgical and pathological findings were retrospectively analyzed.The appearances of two diseases on T1W、T2W、STIR and enhanced T1W imagings were carefully investigated.Results MRI diagnostic sensitivity of two diseases was 100%,the coincidence rate of diagnosis was 91.7%.The differences on T1WI、changes on border、peripheral changes on T2WI、and changes in endometrium and at junctional zone were distinctive,whereas the differences of uterine deformation、T2WI and enhanced imagings were indistinctive.The lesions could be clearly displayed on T2W and STIR imagings.Conclusion As the result of different pathology,leiomyomas and adenomyosis have different exhibition on MR imagings.It's very important to choose appropriate MRI sequences and techniques.
