Serum CA_(125) and Sialic Acid Assays in Patients with Ovarian Endometriosis and Ovarian Benign Tumor

Abstract

Objective To investigate the value of serum CA 125 and sialic acid (SA) assays in diagnosis of ovarian endometriosis and ovarian benign tumors.Methods Thirty patients with ovarian endometriosis,thirty patients with ovarian benign tumor and fifteen normal women were studied.The serum CA 125 level were determined by immunoradio metric assay.The serum SA level were detected by chemical colorimetric method.Result The mean CA 125 levels in patients with ovarian endometriosis were significantly higher than thet with ovaran benign tumor and in normal women (P0.01).The mean SA levels were similar in all three groups (P0.05).Conclusion Serum CA 125 assay is of great assistance to the dignosis of ovarian endometriosis as well as to its differential diagnosis with ovarisn benign tumors.
