Abstract

Medical therapy is an integral part of the treatment armamentarium for endometriosis. The ability to attack this disease without surgical intervention is critical to the effective treatment strategy for many. However, drug treatment of endometriosis is far from perfect in terms of outcome measures. This chapter is designed to thoroughly discuss all available medical treatments of endometriosis, as well as the role of each in the treatment of this disease (Table 14.1). Experimental therapies will also be previewed, with an assessment of their current status. Finally, the role of medical therapy in conjunction with surgical treatment will be reviewed in an attempt to determine the advisability of this approach.
