This prospective pilot study aimed to select clinical parameters to build a predictive endometriosis score to reduce unnecessary invasive diagnostics. Women with suspected endometriosis undergoing operative treatment were recruited, with 456 preoperative anamnesis, psychological, and clinical variables collected, and after laparoscopy participants were classified as endometriosis (n=97) versus chronic pelvic pain (CPP) without endometriosis (n=59). Compared with CPP, the endometriosis group more frequently reported dysmenorrhea and mid-cycle pain, more stress-related and perimenstrual/“touch sensitivity” pain descriptors, higher family dysmenorrhea history, greater pain intensity (including VAS differences), more analgesic use but less hormone use, higher prevalence of prior endometriosis/history or pathological findings and thyroid disease, and higher rates of smoking and specific psychological scores (e.g., powerlessness and attribution). The paper’s central relationship to endometriosis is that it is about selecting predictors to develop a forecasting score for endometriosis in women presenting with chronic abdominal/pelvic pain.
