Laparoscopic excision of endometriosis

The best treatment of endometriosis remains surgery. However, the surgery and definition of endometriosis have changed over time (Figure 8.1). For example, surgeons are more aware of the subtle appearance of endometriosis (Figures 8.2 and 8.3), as well as ‘unrecognized’ deep endometriosis (Figure 8.4). Reporting the depth and volume of deep endometriosis is necessary to evaluate results of surgery. Similarly, the size of ovarian endometriomas, the presence of adhesions, the pathologic confirmation of the disease, and the technique used, are essential to compare results of different type operations for endometriosis.
