Spatial Variations in Porcine Liver Coefficient of Thermal Expansion

Abstract

Abstract The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of biological tissues is an important parameter in the application of many energy-based biomedical therapies. In this study, we employ 2D Digital Image Correlation (DIC) to monitor surface displacement and determine the corresponding strain in tissue samples subjected to temperature fluctuations in a water bath. By combining this data with recorded water temperature information, we create comprehensive maps of the CTE for porcine liver specimens. DIC provides a comprehensive analysis of the specimen's thermomechanical response, providing insight into the detailed strain behavior and structural characteristics of the tissue under investigation.
