Abstract
Introduction: Autoimmune disease (AD) represents a devastating attack on the body presenting a threat to almost every body system. Recent AD work suggested that the Innate Immune System (InImS) un-derlies the autoimmunity. FERAD biomarkers can assess InImS activity in patients with AD and other inflammatory diseases (ID). FERAD levels can down-modulated the InImS by dietary means, the at-tenuating disease Methods: Our previous colorectal cancer study prospectively monitored over 2,294 patients who provided mail-in stool cards, bodily fluids, after consent. The Adnab-9 monoclonal antibody recognizes Paneth cell secreted p87 protein allowing ELISA quantification of this protein. Serum ferritin levels were divided by the p87 concentration yields the FERAD ratio which mirrors the stance of the InImS versus 1,213 non-disease controls. Results: In AD, FERAD ratios are extremely low. Most AD had FERAD ratios that were significantly different from controls with significant mortality. Most AD and ID disease states with higher FERAD ratios had significantly better outcomes in mortality (p< 0.017) and compared to other prognostic NLR (absolute neutrophil:absolute lymphocyte ratio markers. Conclu-sions: In this prospective, multi-center study we were able to show significant biomarker differences in AD versus non-AD disease states opening possibilities of adjusting the FERAD ratio to reduce disease symptomatology.
