Abstract
Prior research has identified that the chronic condition endometriosis negatively impacts psychological wellbeing and quality of life. Less is known about its impact on one's social and personal relationships. This project aims to examine psychosocial and endometriosis-related factors linked with personal and interpersonal relationship functioning in people with endometriosis. A single online Qualtrics survey will be used to collect cross-sectional data using validated measures. The project consists of three sub-studies. The first sub-study has two aims: the first is to investigate possible differences in levels of illness invalidation across various sources, specifically family, healthcare professionals, workplace, and partner. The second aim is to investigate the association between demoralisation and illness invalidation, and whether this is moderated by self-compassion. The second sub-study will examine whether powerlessness, pain, and fear of progression is related to and predictive of dating anxiety. The final sub-study aims to investigate the association between psychological distress (i.e., depression and anxiety) and pain intensity, and whether this relationship is moderated by perceived partner responsiveness.
