Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical effects and possibility of ethanol sclerotherpay for ovarian cysts. Methods: Eighty-three patients suffered with single endometriotic cysts and 6 patients with ovarian abscess were included in the study. The fluid content of ovarian cyst was aspirated under the transvaginal B-ultrasound with a 17-G puncture needle, and the collapsed cyst was irrigated with pure ethanol for 5 minutes. After the treatment, cysts were observed in 3,6,12 and 24 months, and the their sizes were recorded accordingly. Results: About 86.7%(72/83) cysts were absorbed completely,13.3 %(11/83) of them reappeared more than 2cm in diameter.100%(6/6) ovarian abscesses were absorbed completely. No serious complications were observed except mild pain and puncture site bleeding during performance. Conclusion: This procedure is as effective as that of laparoscopy operation, and the loss of ovarian cortex is avoided.
