Abstract

Abstract Background: Thymic carcinoma is an epithelial malignant tumour that rarely presents in the pericardial cavity.Case presentation: Herein, we describe a patient who suffered giant intrapericardial mass with infiltration of the superior vena cava (SVC) and right atrium (RA). The mass was evaluated by multimodality imaging. Surgeons performed en bloc resection of mass and reconstruction of SVC and RA. Pathological results supported a diagnosis of thymic carcinoma. Conclusions: To our knowledge, this was the largest pericardial thymic carcinoma ever to be reported in the literature. This case demonstrates the utility of multimodality imaging in evaluating the pericardial mass and the validity of surgery for the giant pericardial thymic carcinoma.
